traveled to chicago to attend the 10th anniversary of twist out cancer.
The Brushes with Cancer, Midwest exhibit took place at the Wonder Museum in Chicago, IL, on November 19, 2022, as part of Twist Out Cancer’s 10th Anniversary celebration. This was the first in-person gala for Twist since before the pandemic. I hadn’t been back to Chicago since I graduated college 30 years earlier–so it was quite the trip!
ARTISTS & inspirations
It was so amazing to be able to meet fellow Brushes with Cancer Artists & Inspirations at this event. My first experiences with Twist Out Cancer were during the pandemic, so most interactions were via video. Hugging participants and talking to them in person was such a joy and a privilege!
ART auction
The gala included an in-person art auction of exhibited works. I knew my Inspiration, Michaela, and her husband, Nick, wanted to take my painting home with them. After a very intense bidding war and lots of suspense, they were fortunately able to secure the purchase of the painting I made in Michaela’s honor!
Venue
The Wonder Museum is indeed a wonder! While the Brushes with Cancer exhibition and gala were upstairs, downstairs was the interactive museum. My friend, Bill, and I explored and loved every single art installation at the venue. Each one was more interesting than the last. And there were even several artworks based on the Brushes with Cancer experience and 10 years of Twist Out Cancer. If you get the chance to visit a Wonder Museum, do it! I hear one is opening in San Diego, CA soon.
